Hello, and welcome to Arctic-Moto-ADV; a blog dedicated to documenting our journey from the Pacific Northwest to the Arctic Ocean transiting 5,000+ miles of Canadian wilderness on our adventure motorcycles!
This journey was inspired by a week-long adventure ride Terry and I took last summer when we rode from Osoyoos, British Columbia to Hood River, Oregon via Forest Service back roads. This was the first multi-day adventure ride for both of us and it sparked our desire to plan the next big trip. So, while riding the back roads of Washington State and chatting on our blue-tooth enabled helmets we started blurting out destinations we thought would top the "Sasquatch Rally." I offered up destinations like Moab or any of the published Backcountry Discovery Routes but Terry clearly had bigger-and-better ideas. It didn't take him long to say "We need to go to the Arctic Circle!" I obviously immediately thought a burger and fries sounded excellent but it wasn't THAT Arctic Circle he was referring to...he meant the one with bears, limited fuel, and thousands of miles of REMOTE ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLE MADNESS! It took me about as long to say "I'M IN" as it did for Terry to come up with the names he would call me if I didn't agree (names to be shared in-person over an alcoholic beverage).
After arriving home from the Sasquatch Rally the discussions of traversing the Arctic have been non-stop! Seriously, we're like two schoolgirls armed with smart-phones and unlimited texting plans. We quickly realized we needed to document this trip the best we could, hence; the blog and our Twitter page (@arcticmotoadv). We plan to film as much as possible, take lots of pictures, and make daily journal entries. The end result will be an epic video to share with the world documenting all our trials and errors, and hopefully many-many good stories!
Our planned departure date is June 1, 2015 and we believe it will take approximately three weeks to complete the trip. Our intent is to document all of our preparation, equipment purchases, and the decisions we make prior to the trip and then continue updating the blog and Twitter during the adventure.
Finally, we opted to put a donation link on the page for anyone who wants to donate to our adventure. For anyone who donates $20 or more we will dip our foot in the Arctic Ocean and mention your name on video (unless an insane number of people donate).
