Instead, Terry and our other buddy Kent (blue F800GS below) rode one of Seattle's ferries across the Puget Sound and then home around the peninsula. They reported having a great time with the exception of a little electric maintenance required on Terry's trusty "Excalibur." Terry said it was an easy fix and only required tightening the battery terminal bolts loose from one of his recent Battery Tender extension upgrade. Phew...!!!
Kris and I managed to get out of Portland at 10:45 hoping the fog would subside...it didn't! We decided to go anyway and once we gained some elevation West of Portland we broke out of the fog to enjoy the sun! It was a most excellent day! We visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory and bought some cheese curds for next weekends Superbowl (GO HAWKS!). They go excellent with chips and beer...but really, anything goes excellent with chips and beer!
After Tillamook, we headed South to a secret beach I found a few years ago. I took a cruise down the one-mile stretch of unpopulated beach and tested out my Heidenau K60 Scout tires in the sand, they worked perfectly! Kris is still riding on his factory slicks so he wasn't able to have any sand-play. That was the first time I've ridden the BMW in the sand and I was pleased at how well it did. Not as good as my old WR450F...but better than expected.
After the beach, Kris and I headed to Pacific City for tacos and a beer. Pacific City was packed with people. It seemed everyone in Portland had the same idea we had on a nice warm June-uary day...head to the beach!
After Pacific City, Kris and I rode home the same way we came and clocked a total of 245 miles! WHAT A GREAT DAY!
Till the next post...
